Many people desire the life that comes with being a social media influencer; fame, fortune, and thousands of raving followers. However, there are very few who understand the dynamics and processes involved in building an authentic and engaged influencer business model.

Georgina Gentle is definitely one to learn from. She is an Australian-born fashion model with more than 600,000 followers on Instagram alone. In this article, she shares some of the key tips she has learned and applied in her own journey to becoming an influencer.

Know Your Audience

Many people fail on social media because they can not recognize what sort of people they want to connect with.

“The biggest problem many influencers and content creators make is not knowing their audience. I personally think knowing your audience has a big factor in success and growth. The minute you decide to become an influencer, you are opening yourself up and providing an experience for your followers. You need to identify who you are creating content for, what they like to see, and how you can provide that experience for them,” Georgina shares.

The first step to knowing your audience is looking at what is currently popular within your niche. You can do this by looking at the accounts that are popular and checking out what kind of content they are putting out, how they are delivering their messages, and the kind of results they are getting. However, you must not simply directly copy what is popular, and this brings us to the second tip,

Create a Powerful yet Personal Brand

The best and easiest way to stand out is to be authentic and real. Your potential followers are looking for the real you, and not a duplicate of another famous person.

“Creating a brand for yourself is really important,” Georgina asserts. “ When I first got into social media, I was a fitness girl. I was posting fitness content and soon my videos started to go viral. I got noticed by many companies, and I was scouted to do major campaigns for many fitness brands in Australia. Being an influencer allows me to showcase a style I love and because of that I get to work with companies and businesses that share the same style as I have.”

The best part about having your own style is it will be authentic and real and your audience can easily sense that. It will also help you to clearly identify what niche you belong in and gain more traction easily.

Collaborate and Engage

Social media is a two-way street. You can not attain real and measurable success without engaging with both your audience and other influencers in your field.

“ Having great content is important, but engagement is very key as well. I always respond to the first few comments on my Instagram posts. It is also beneficial to do collaborations with other influencers and cross-promote one another.”
