In a rare withdrawal, President Donald Trump reschedules his first rally in months

Announcing the move on Twitter, President Donald Trump rescheduled the Tulsa rally which was planned to be held on June 19 or Juneteenth- the day that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. The decision was taken following the widespread tension and criticism over the debate of racism, in the wake of George Floyd’s killing.

In his tweet on late Friday, he said, “We had previously scheduled our #MAGA Rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for June 19th – a big deal. “Unfortunately, however, this would fall on the Juneteenth Holiday. Many of my African American friends and supporters have reached out to suggest that we consider changing the date out…of respect for this Holiday, and in observance of this important occasion and all that it represents.”

The President then reiterated that the rally has been shifted to June 20th, Saturday with no further delays. Amid tensions of coronavirus and racism in the US, the rally also sparked outrage across its location in Oklahoma, citing the past racist statements of President Trump. Any political event or rally in-person hasn’t been held since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

The Tulsa massacre is also known as the worst racial violence that took place on May 31, 1921, where 24 hours of ferocity lasted in 200 plus deaths and 35 city blocks. According to the sources, the details of the incidents has been exaggerated from person to person, narrating their own version of the violence, it is said to have started when Dick Rowland (a young black man) rode in an elevator along with Sarah Page (a white woman).

This led to the arrest of Dick Rowland under the charges of allegedly assaulting a white woman- Page.

Meanwhile, Trump is looking up to a number of rallies in the future after Tulsa’s.
