Brazil lambastes FDA, suggests hydroxychloroquine’s usage

Amidst the phase where hydroxychloroquine and other medicines are being tested to potentially work on the patients of novel coronavirus, Brazil has recommended it to pregnant women and children for the early treatment. Meanwhile, Brazil also criticized the decision of the US regarding the usage of hydroxychloroquine.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently announced that hydroxychloroquine wouldn’t prove to be completely effective in the treatment of patients of coronavirus. Well, right after the release of its statement, Brazil released that it recommends the usage of hydroxychloroquine to its people (pregnant women and children) and criticized the move by FDA.

During the announcement of its use, an official from the Health Ministry Mayra Pinheiro said that the study from FDA and its allies can’t prove to be accurate in case of the whole world including Brazil and especially, with hydroxychloroquine which has turned out to be effective on many early patients.

While many medical institutions over the world have tested its usage in treating the patients of coronavirus, Pinheiro disagreed with the study of FDA and other institutes that are unable to conclude its usage and stated, “quality of their(FDA) methodology is terrible.”

What exactly is hydroxychloroquine?

The drug name of hydroxychloroquine is Plaquenil and it is generally used in the treatment of malaria, lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Many doctors use it as a part of a combination theory (where the doctor can prescribe it with other medicines). This drug helps in rectifying the conditions of the body’s immune system and it has also proved to be effective in killing the parasites of malaria.

The drug comes with its due side-effects like drowsiness, headache, stomach-ache, vomiting, and others. It’s being clinically tested for its role in the treatment of malaria but no, clinical evidence claims it to be completely useful in the same.
