Amid tensions among the US navy, Burger King ties with Tik-Tok

Recently, in a Twitter thread, the US Navy Public Information Officer Rear Adm. Charlie Brown signaled to China’s TikTok being a threat to the country’s national security. He tweeted, “I get it that TikTok is hugely popular among a demographic that may be important to you. I get it that you can’t be part of a conversation if you’re not present. But you don’t need to be a think-tank expert to know that info control is important to China’s government #guardup. It is not just about what is on our government phone or not. It’s about social media literacy— how much trust can you put in the info you are seeing? There are more choices than ever for how we share information and stay connected with each other. Choose avenues you trust.”

Brown also claimed that social media has become a part of national security now, because of its prevalence and the crimes that have been committed within.

Not even a week after his tweet, Burger King announced that Tiktok will be its new ally where the audience can order a Whopper of worth $1 by not paying even a single penny. The customer would just have to post a short dance video like the same which is posted in Tiktok but that should be with a hashtag of #WhopperDance including a song of Burger king. Also, the user needs to follow Burger King’s account on Tiktok for the same.

Confirming the move, Burger King’s director of media and social channel, Jorge Luiz R. Oliveira stated, “We are investing in our digital channels and are always looking for innovative ways to engage with guests. The BK North America team is constantly pushing into new territories and Whopper Dance on TikTok is one of these ideas.”

For now, there has been no reaction from the Navy’s side. More updates on the other side.
